New Book Claims Meghan Markle Found the Constraints of Royalty Frustrating and Burned Too Many Bridges With Royal Family – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

It was clear that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex felt their exit from the royal family was necessary. The public and media scrutiny that accompanied their life in the spotlight had become overwhelming — so their decision to quit their royal duties didn’t come as much of a surprise. A new book claims that Meghan, in particular, “found the constraints of royalty frustrating” and “burned too many bridges” when she and Harry exited.

Prince Harry and Meghan decided to take a step back

After an extended break around the holidays in 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan returned to royal life with a surprising announcement — they planned to take a step back from their royal duties. Though the announcement seemed drastic, the queen worked with them to determine their exit plan, which included giving up their HRH titles and any public funding in order for them to pursue their next chapter.

At the time, the queen released a statement in support of the Sussex’s decision. “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” the queen’s statement read.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life,” her statement shared.

Meghan reportedly struggled with adapting to royal life

In the new book Royals at War, authors Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett claim that Meghan had a challenging time with royal life because she was “difficult” and demanding.

“Meghan can be difficult. She has very high standards and is used to working in a Hollywood environment,” one insider told the authors (via Express). “However, there is a different degree of respect in the royal household.”

The book’s sources further shared that Meghan “found the constraints of royalty frustrating.”

Further, Meghan’s move to work with the PR team Sunshine Sachs to boost her image because she was reportedly “tired of palace advisers and communications teams” didn’t go over well with the palace. They were reportedly “shocked,” according to insiders, who claimed Meghan left an “indelible stain” on her working relationships with the royal household.

Harry and Meghan burned bridges

As if this didn’t create enough tension, Howard claimed in the book that “Meghan had burned too many bridges” when she left the royal family. “The palace is run by a hierarchy of advisors, aides and equerries who hold the real power. It is a b*tchy, cliquey place,” he noted.

Howard continued, “Once Meghan cut herself free of those strings, there was no way back and the knives were effectively out.”

Another royal expert previously claimed that Prince Harry also burned bridges amidst Megxit. In an article written for the Daily Mail, royal editor Rebecca English noted that, “As one royal insider — previously a great admirer — said to me recently: ‘Harry has given up everything, literally everything. He has burnt every single bridge back at home. And Meghan? Well I rather think she’s got what she wanted…’”
