In a match made in real estate reality show heaven, “Flip or Flop” star Tarek El Moussa is engaged to marry “Selling Sunset” star Heather Rae Young.
The two announced they would be closing their deal during a surprise one-year anniversary celebration on California’s Catalina Island, posting photos of the romantic proposal moment Sunday.
“She said yes!” El Moussa, 38, wrote on Instagram next to a picture of him placing the eight carat emerald-cut diamond ring on Young’s finger, with the hashtag #FlippingHerLastName.
Young, 32, showed off the same photo on Instagram, confirming the happy news and the name change. “The Future Mrs. Tarek El Moussa!!!!” she wrote in the caption.
The two started the celebration with a candle-lit dinner on a boat off Newport Beach, California, “and the most incredible private chef,” El Moussa wrote on Instagram. Young noted it was four courses with vegan options.
She posted on Instagram from a spa on Catalina Island before the proposal, writing, “One of us is having the best surprise weekend of her life 💕🦄Thank you my love.”
Wearing a tuxedo, El Moussa proposed with one knee in the sand Saturday night. He told People.com that the eight carat, colorless, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring he chose is “perfect all the way around, just like Heather.” Eight is also his lucky number.
The two celebrated the Saturday night engagement. “We did it,” they said during a kiss-filled, joint Instagram Stories selfie video from pool chairs.
“This weekend has been a nightmare trying to hide it from her,” El Mussa said in the video. “We had a spectacular time and I’m in love and I’m engaged.”
El Moussa finalized his highly publicized divorce from ex-wife Christina Anstead in 2018 after splitting in 2016. They share two children – daughter Taylor, 9, and son Brayden, 4.
“I’ll be honest and say I never thought I would meet someone special…Then out of the blue @heatherraeyoung walked into my life,” El Moussa wrote on Instagram in August. “I just want to let the world know I met someone special that makes me want to be a better man.”
